Which university has the highest market share in Commonwealth Grant Scheme allocation over the long run?
And the winner is...
Analysis
In 2021, the market share of Monash University in Commonwealth Grant Scheme (CGS) allocation was 4.7%.
Monash University consistently remained the highest position in market share for CGS, except for 2013 when it was exceeded by University of Sydney and University of Queensland.
The top 3 also remained consistent being Monash University, University of Sydney and University of Queensland.
It is important to note there is no significant difference between market shares of universities within the top 10.
Over time the top 10 group has ceded a few percentage points to the rest of the public universities, but on a market share basis, positions and percentages remain fairly consistent.
On this basis, universities (particularly the top 10) have little to gain from seeking to increase their share of CGS and are generally better served by strategies that aim to manage their CGS funding share as cost effectively as possible.
